Armed with a vast collection of esoteric, sometimes conflicting influences, The SSF have crafted a unique sound - a delicate blend of power and intimacy that sits comfortably yet transcends genre. So who is The SSF? They are hard to pinpoint. The utter randomness of their meeting and influences can only be described as natural selection gone strangely right. Like discarded found objects, The SSF were reassembled piece by piece into a whole new "Thing" that defies current convention yet respects its past. It's this duality that fuels this band and their music to unconventional highs and fragile lows. Over the past two years, The Slow Signal Fade have become known not only for their genre defying music but also as being one of the hardest working bands in the City of Angels. Never a band to sit back and be content with performing at the most high profile clubs in L.A., The Slow Signal Fade have toured relentlessly throughout the United States. Aside from two West Coast tours that took them from San Diego to Seattle and back in 2004, the band also embarked on a national tour the same year after garnering an invitation to play CMJ in NYC. In 2005, the band already has plans to tour the Southwest, as well as another West Coast & National tour later in the year in support of their latest CD E.P. on Stroll Music, THROUGH THE OPAQUE AIR. THROUGH THE OPAQUE AIR (Stroll Music) or their demo turned debut KINDLING E.P. (Stroll Music, 2003) and The SSF's rich, textured sound is that of sonic familiarity which is anything but derivative. Their evocative style, colorful melodies, and engaging percussions provide the foundation for the beautiful, timeless and ethereal vocals of Sri Lankan born singer Marguerite Olivelle. Drawing inspiration from singing legends such as Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington to Sinead O'Connor and Cat Power, Olivelle seamlessly bridges the gap between timeless classics and of-the-moment contemporary singers. Backed by the gale force musical "Push Pull Push" that is Aaron Vishria on drums, Chris Walters on bass and Ron Ulicny on guitar, The SSF is something new and unique. With their delayed guitars, clever lyrics and gauzy vocals, The SSF is one of those rare bands that aren't concerned with writing the perfect 3-minute pop song. The hooks in this tackle box are few and far between. What you will find is an expansive wall of sound that alternates between sleep-like calm, wired impulses, and careful destruction.
