I have purchased 5 of these pumps. Still using them all. pretty quiet. Strong air supply. two of the pumps started pumping less air over time. That's one of the reasons I bought new pumps. the repair kit for this pump is $15 and the new pump is $20. But after a second pump went out I did buy the kit. One side of each pump started to be very weak. Thought it was going to be a bad rubber pumper but what went bad on both units was the outlet check valve. the small silicone valve wore out and didn't keep the air going in the outward direction. So, one repair kit fixed the two pumps. replaced the bad parts but kept the rubber plungers for when they might go out later on. Still, $15 for the repair kit vs $20 for a whole other new pump... tough call But, one kit to fix two pumps, I am okay with thatVery powerful flow. Can easily handle multiple air or bubbler features at the same time. I placed in a 20 gallon tank. I’m going to add a valve for the airline to dial down the air flow and control the noise of the bubbles. The unit itself is quiet.I do some fish/shrimp breeding and own about 5 of these pumps in various sizes. After years of running them here’s what I’ve found.10-30 gallon (2 stars) ended up sounding like a tattoo machine after an hour so I returned it.20-40 gallon (5 stars) these are hands down my favorite. Super quiet. I’m sensitive to low humming noise in my house and you can barely tell they’re running.30-60 gallon (3 stars) a workhorse but also a little on the loud side. About the same sound level as the 10-30 gallon.10-30 gallon tested at 68dB at 1” away20-40 gallon tested at 62dB at 1” away30-60 gallon tested at 69dB at 1” awayInteresting how the small pump puts out the same amount of sound as the larger one but it’s just how they are. If you’re on the fence about one because of the reviews about noise trust me, the 20-40 is the one to go with. I own two and they’re both pretty quiet.If you’re using in a dedicated fish room or breeding in a garage etc the 30-60 pump probably won’t bother you. But for anyone using the pump in their house or office etc I strongly suggest the 20-40. I thought maybe I just got a quiet one, but both of mine sound exactly the same. Even if you’re using it in a smaller tank, just get the 20-40 and dial it back with the adjustable valve it comes with. If you tried the 10-30 pump and didn’t like it because of the noise, try the 20-40 before convincing yourself they’re all loud.Hope this helps!They're not "whisper" quiet, but they are quiet. I have a whole mess of these now - 1 10, 1 20-40, 1 40-60, and two 100s. These power ALL of my sponge filters and do a nice job. Would recommend.It could be quieter but other than that this air pump has proven to be very good quality.This was bought as a replacement for a pump going out. I was so used to the other pump that I didn’t realize how loud it had become until setting up the new pump. Nowhere was it stated this pump is sold with a U.S plug molded onto it and this not suitable for UK use. I am looking at adaptors but still not sure it will work due to 115v and this is an additonal cost. No idea if pump is any good as not able to use.Unhappy, very loud, very disturbing and annoying by noise. sounds like a lawn mowerIt is nice and quiet and works well. Sadly even though sold on the Australian website it cannot be used in Australia without buying a step down transformer. So now the pump price has doubled.
