Product Description

The British Isles are magnificent places, filled with endlessly fascinating sights, stories, and people, and they are defined and shaped by their coast. Hundreds of spectacular photographs in this book hint at the wonder of the ever-changing place where the land meets the sea—from the privileged viewpoint of the birds. From small harbors to expansive bridges, towering cliffs to seaside resorts—Coast from the Air presents a dramatic new perspective on this green and pleasant land, and shows just how beautiful, surprising, and fragile that land can be. In 20 chapters—each one focusing on a specific coastal region of the British Isles—over 200 outstanding aerial photographs portray the beauty and diversity of the coastline. From the Dingle to The Wash, from the mild seaside towns of England's south coast to the storm-lashed fishing villages of the Outer Hebrides, Coast from the Air is a true visual feast.

I agree with some of the reviews that say the quality of the photos just isn't as high as one would expect. The cover photo is one of the best of the book. I very much enjoyed the BBC series when I lived in England and wanted to recapture some of it when I moved back to the States. The text immediately brings to mind the narrative of the program, with Neil Oliver offering various historic insights and anecdotes. The book would benefit from more of such text. I believe there may be better photographic books available and I will look continue to look for one that captures the beauty of England's diverse landscapes from the air. Never the less, while this book doesn't "tick all the boxes" for me, there is still something satisfying about it.
